Lift off
Sputnik Design Team’s new website pays homage to exploration and human curiosity, instrumental in the creative process and characteristic of the agency’s name. The website lives inside an abstract universe of work floating in zero gravity. Steering clear of forced intellectualism and complex animations, the website is a simple portfolio, focused on ease-of-use by instantly putting users in the driving seat. Work is presented as a mixed-media collage of 2D and 3D objects, sprinkled with quirky icons, from astronauts and UFOs to flying ducks and carrier pigeons. As users move the mouse over the work, the pointer changes into icons relevant to the project, to underpin the agency’s unconventional design mantra. The website follows an equally uncomplicated structure reduced to just two pages: the black collage universe and the orange informational page with linguistic references to exploration and creativity.
