Grey websites are very popular among designers. It is a balanced, subtle and neutral color that fits any theme as it does not evoke any particularly emotion. On the other hand, it is not as striking as other colors, its main quality is to go unnoticed. It is a very common background color because its neutrality make other colors stand out. This makes grey a perfect background color for sites like portfolios in which it can help to focus the attention in elements such as photographs or illustrations.

Grey can be a great substitute for black and white. Although it does not have the strength and neatness of black, a dark shade of grey can take its place in a design, it is great for sophisticated and elegant websites.
