Escape plan: Virtual fire safety

Escape plan: Virtual fire safety

In our quest for innovation in multi-platform VR, our recent partnership with Meta and the Ad Council has led to the creation of "Escape Plan" – an immersive experience designed to champion fire safety for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Available on mobile, desktop, and VR

This multiplayer, cross-platform gem is all about driving home the importance of having a solid evacuation strategy during fire emergencies.

Boosting Fire Safety Awareness with Escape Plan

In a world where fire incidents are all too common, educating people on evacuation plans is paramount. Between 2015 and 2019, residential fires accounted for a concerning 25% of all cases, underscoring the need for preparedness and teaching people the proper steps for fire evacuation to enhance safety and reduce risks.

Escape Plan provides users with a detailed post-experience summary to empower self-assessment. This tool helps users evaluate their safety choices and find ways to improve for the future.

A Collaborative Approach to Safety

Escape Plan offers a unique two-player experience – one person steps into a VR fire emergency, while the other takes the reins via mobile interface to guide them. This dynamic duo emphasises cooperation, communication, and quick decision-making for a successful escape.

Multiplayer

Having created VR experiences since the first Oculus, it was exciting to create a multiplayer experience and break away from the solo experience that is typical of VR.

Harnessing WebXR for Education

This interactive model's guide-and-escapee dynamic showcases the potential of WebXR. With an intuitive and immersive design, Escape Plan serves as both an educational tool and an engaging adventure. Given the frequency of residential fires, this initiative plays a crucial role in raising fire safety awareness.

Commitment to the Future

“At Meta we are building for the next generation of the internet, which is why our partnership with FEMA and the Ad Council to develop immersive experiences in Virtual and Augmented Reality like the Escape Plan is so important"

The development of Escape Plan marks a fundamental change in immersive, educational VR encounters. By educating users and promoting cooperation and quick decision-making, it stands as a significant contribution to enhancing fire safety awareness, thus reducing potential risks in residential settings. We can’t wait to create more immersive multi-player experiences and see WebXR as big part of our workflow in 2024 and beyond.
Thanks, MMP 🔥
