The Graphic Designer Alvaro Tapia's Colorful and Grotesque Artwork

Article by Awwwards Team in Design & Illustration - January 21

His creative technique arises from a photographic reference and his hand is the one that, first with pencil on paper and then with mouse on computer, finally digitizes these striking, amazing graphic artworks. Alvaro Tapia Hidalgo (Viña del Mar, Chile) is a graphic designer, audiovisual producer and illustrator who has not stopped travelling the world. Throughout his career and life he has passed through Valparaiso, Madrid, Manchester and currently resides in Granada, Spain.

His illustrations share a pop style, in portrait format, covering mixed techniques: handwork and digital processing. Grotesque, horror expressions are characteristic but they are nonetheless full of color. In his drawings and designs he usually works with layers of colors, textures and shapes which he develops in Photoshop. His artwork portfolio also includes animations and motion graphics. He often uses the theme of the movies - especially B movies - music or retro images of anatomy for his designs.

Here we share a small collection of some of his most outstanding illustrations.
