Firstborn, an award-winning full-service interactive agency, is in the process of interviewing candidates for a full-time, on-site position of Technical Director in our New York office.


Firstborn is a digital agency with headquarters in New York City. Since our inception in 1997, we have created breakthrough interactive work for high-profile clients in the fashion, beauty, sports and entertainment industries. You'll be responsible for overseeing projects on the technical end, in addition to provide leadership in a shared capacity with other technical leads. You will have the chance to work with very skilled and passionate teams on a variety of projects including (but not limited to) content management systems, web applications for desktop and mobile, native mobile applications, games, out-of-home installations and e-commerce sites.


  • 5+ years of agency experience, with several of these in a senior role
  • Very strong technical background covering multiple languages and platforms
  • Ability to lead projects from a technical standpoint and help bridge communication between client, third party vendors and other internal teams
  • Bring technical insights during ideation process
  • Strong communication skills, both in person and in writing
  • Help identify and resolve workflow and pipeline issues
  • Natural ability to inspire and mentor team members
  • Very strong problem solving and debugging skills
  • Experience creating technical documentation such as wireframes, flow charts, database models, server diagram, web services, etc
  • Capacity to scope the technical aspects of projects from a timeline, resource and cost perspective
  • Extensive experience with planning and building CMS solutions (custom or existing products)
  • Help find new development talent and interview potential candidates
  • Visible presence in the industry through conferences, articles, open source projects, etc
  • Experience with e-commerce and payment gateway integration
  • Understanding of design and usability concerns
  • Desire to be hands-on and lead by example
  • Sys admin / IT experience
