Introducing the Developer Award

Introducing the Developer Award

There’s a new web award celebrating websites that seek to balance innovative design with quality code. In conjunction with Internet Explorer, we recently launched the Developer Award, which recognizes the work of web developers and designers who care about the inner beauty of their websites. Today, we’re excited to announce the first winner of the Developer Award, Elegant Seagulls! A small shop in Marquette, Michigan, Elegant Seagulls takes pride in helping their clients get mobile and tablet ready. It was their company site that was up for the award, and their particular attention to optimized responsive design stood out to the judging panel.

There’s an expectation today that websites should just work regardless of what device the user is coming from, be that a phone, tablet or computer. And for those with visual or hearing impairments, good code can mean the difference between enjoying a site and not being able to experience it at all.

That’s why we’re partnering with IE to bring another layer to our website competition – quality code. Quality code describes the technical design and interoperability of a website, which allows sites to work across browsers and devices. This is fundamental to the success of real-world sites in today’s ever evolving World Wide Web.
